Perdue Animal Nutrition continues to expand its backyard poultry line through our Science based. Research driven.® initiative. At this year’s SuperZoo in Las Vegas, the FlockLeader team introduced Shell and Bone Builder, an all-natural calcium supplement for laying hens to support strong eggshells and bone health. Shell & Bone Builder provides a large and consistent form of calcium and is harvested in the USA to guarantee safety and quality. Perdue Animal Nutrition is proud to celebrate Dr. Jonas de Souza, recipient of the 2025 Lallemand Award for Scientific Excellence in Dairy Nutrition. This award, presented at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, recognizes scientists in the first decade of their careers who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to research, teaching, extension, or industry application in dairy nutrition. It is one of the most respected honors in the field, highlighting both innovation and impact.

Since joining Perdue Animal Nutrition in 2018, Dr. de Souza has spent the last seven years exploring the effects of different fatty acids and dietary strategies on cow performance, with the goal of improving both productivity and profitability. By translating complex nutritional studies into practical solutions, he continues to help the industry find new ways to increase the efficiency and value of dairy production.

This recognition highlights not only Dr. de Souza’s dedication to advancing dairy science, but also the strength of our team’s commitment to supporting customers and the industry with sound, science-based nutrition. We are proud of his achievements and grateful for the contributions he brings to Perdue Animal Nutrition and the dairy community. Congratulations, Dr. de Souza, on this well-deserved honor.

The FlockLeader team attended SuperZoo in Las Vegas, where 1,120 pet industry experts and exhibitors from around the world gathered to show their latest pet products.

Perdue Animal Nutrition’s FlockLeader® line of probiotic supplements, designed for backyard chickens, won the coveted New Product Award at SuperZoo 2022. SuperZoo, North America’s largest pet retail event, hosts the new product showcase each year to highlight and recognize innovative and sustainable products. Team members from Perdue Animal Nutrition and Perdue Pet Business attended the conference.

“We know every backyard chicken owner wants to keep their flock healthy. We created the FlockLeader line to do just that,” said Dr. John Sylvester, Director of Sales and Marketing for Perdue Animal Nutrition. “We understand that there’s no single probiotic solution that can serve as a ‘catch-all,’ especially when we’re talking about 14 million households* who have backyard chickens. Our six unique products each help solve specific issues.”

According to the 2021-2022 American Pet Products Association Pet Owners Survey, backyard chicken ownership is the third most common type of pet ownership in the U.S, trailing only dogs and cats. While more than 14 million households have backyard flocks, seven out of 10 of those households consider chickens to be pets, the survey showed.

The 2021 launch of the FlockLeader line of probiotic supplements reflects Perdue Farms’ leadership in animal nutrition and welfare and marks the first direct-to-consumer product from Perdue AgriBusiness.
